The Vetesnik Family would like to thank everyone for their support during this time: The phone calls at the store and to family members is becoming overwhelming. We ask that you are respectful of the families wishes and allow Gregg to get the rest he needs along with the family so he can recover. Gregg's status will be posted here as updates occur, again, we thank all of you for your support and understanding.
On 10-10-09 While Gregg was setting up for the Redneck hybrid rally at the RC fairgrounds, Gregg was trying to reel in a blimp (balloon) after the wind had caught it. While reeling it in the blimp came in contact with a power line shocking Gregg.
Gregg was transported to UW Hospital in Madison, WI by med flight.
On 10-11 he underwent surgery to clean burns recieved on his left forearm and shoulder.
At this time the family would request visits limited to immediate family.
Please keep Gregg and his family in your prayers.
Thanks
| 10/13/09 Update: Surgery this morning Posted 1 hour ago This morning at 6am they took Gregg into surgery prepping his thighs, right arm and hand for grafting for Tuesdays surgery. He'll have more surgery this Thursday and Saturday to assess his left hand, arm, shoulder and head wound. As we know your intentions are good the phone calls have become to overwhelming. We would request any communication be done through the carepage website, please feel free to send this link to others. Also again visitations to the burn unit are limited to immediate family only. Keep Gregg, Sue and family in your prayers. Thank you all so much.

Update #2 10/13/09:
WRCO Monday morning news has a good explanation of events.
Sue just came in and said later today they want to try and get Gregg up and out of bed walking, eating and brushing his own teeth. They just got Gregg out of bed and into a chair for lunch. Sue
is in there with him now.
From where I am sitting in the waiting room I can look across
into Greggs room, Sue opened the blinds to his room so we waived
and blews kisses to Gregg, he responded with a wave and smile!
That was so exciting to see him up and able to wave back at us.

Update 10/14/09: Garrett just informed Gena he spent some time with his dad
tonight, Gregg seemed a bit confused thinking his surgery is
tomorrow and forgetting he had surgery this morning. Im sure its
the meds. Other then that, Garretts positive for the night was that
his dad got a new cute nurse that "tops" the other ones :)
Elaine (Greggs mom) is spending the night with him tonight and
giving Sue her first break from the hospital. Sue was thinking
about going to the RC/Lancaster VB game to watch Danni...

| update 10/14/09: Hi all,
I just spoke to Sue, the UW is getting bombarded with phone calls and she's asking me if there is someway we can get it out to the public to please hold all calls at this time.
We know everyone is so concerned and we certainly appreciate all the love, support and prayers but the best way to send your best wishes is through this carepage site. I read these to Sue daily and tonight we're hoping to be able to share them with Gregg for the first time. I’m certain it will lift his spirits!!
She also wanted me to pass on they are unable to accept food or flowers in the burn unit, there is no way to keep/store the food and because of allergies they can not accept flowers. It would be best to wait until they get home before sending that kind of stuff.
Thanks for your help in this matter.
Now on to the most important thing, Gregg.... Last evening he became a little sick to his stomach but sounds like he's doing better this morning.
Today he had physical therapy and they got him up walking. Sue feels he did very well with that, it did make him pretty tired so after a nap and lunch they'll get him up and moving again.
That’s all I know for now.
I'll update more tonight.
Thank you all so much!

Update from the evening of 10/14/09: Just got back from the hospital.
They are really pushing Gregg to get up and move, while we were there Gregg took his second lap of the day around the burn unit loop which enters the hallway, we were able to actually see and speak to him for a few seconds. It was a great feeling to see him face to face and say a few words before he went back into his unit.
I printed off all the wonderful carepage messages and emails and Sue spent a few hours tonight reading them all to him while he was sitting up in his chair. She said he really enjoyed listening to all of them and they both appreciate them so much.
Tomorrow (Thursday) another surgery in the morning to do more clean up and more assessments.
He's being well taken care of.
Please keep them in your prayers!
Update from Gena 10/15/09: Last night we were thinking of some video's to bring into Gregg to watch of family and or whatever and I got this idea that since I'll be at the River Valley vs Richland Center volleyball game tonight that I may want to take 1/2 hour before the Varsity game and shoot some messages from all his friends and family who will be in attendance. Then I'd shoot the game for him to watch this weekend or when ever he's up to it.
If you are going to be at the Volleyball game tonight at RV and would like to say a short greeting on camera can you email me Gena.Clarson@wisconsin.gov or you can also leave an email on this carepage.
I dont think he'll be having visitors any time soon so I think this would be another great way to lift his spirits!
Let me know.
Gena

update from the evening of 10/15/09:by Debra Jackson:
It was so great to see Gregg sitting up in a chair and watching TV. We even heard him joking a bit with the nurse. We visited until 9:15 and he enjoyed some of the homemade soup I brough for him. Leanne spent the evening with me in the family waiting room. Gregg must have slept well because the nurse never came in to get me. Gregg seems to be unbelievably strong and seems to be healing very quickly.

| Update from 3 pm - 10/16/09 :Text from Sue:
Sue reports that Gregg looks really good today and he's already made 3 laps around the burn unit :) YEAH....GO GREGG!!
Also Danni and Garrett (his kids) were both able to visit with him today which made him very happy.
Thats great news!!!
Im going to take over all the amazing carepage messages and emails you've all sent in about an hour.
I'll probably update more tomorrow after his surgery.
Keep them in your prayers!!

| Update on 10/18/09 by Gena: This after noon Brent and I had our very first visit with Gregg since the accident. Wow was it great to see him. I think he looks very strong and very alert.
We brought him framed family pictures to keep in his room along with the printed carepage messages, he grabbed the stack right out of my hands and began to read, it was great to see him smile and chuckle over some of the messages he got. Keep them coming its keeping his spirits up!
He ate dinner while we were there and then was ready for a nap.
I dont anticipate being able to see him again for a while now, tomorrow is the scheduled grafting and he'll be immobile for 7 days.
BTW some of you are wondering who's updating the carepage site for Gregg, Im Gena, Sue's younger sis.
Sue said she'll call me tomorrow night with an update.
Keep them in your prayers please.
Thanks!!
